Our core business

The core of Formal Chemical’s business is to manufacture and distribute the adhesive resin products together with their relevant hardeners and filler material to cater for the plywood mills and other related wood-based industries in Malaysia.

The major products which it finds applications are particle board and MDF, wood substitute products and plywood in the production of furniture, decorative products and construction materials.

Adhesive resins - all under one roof

The adhesive resins are manufactured under three classifications, Urea Formaldehyde (UF), Phenol-Formaldehyde (PF) and Melamine-Urea- Formaldehyde (MUF) with Formaldehyde as the base raw material.

Phenol-formaldehyde (PF)

Phenol-formaldehyde (PF) is a resin produced by co-polymerising phenol and formaldehyde catalysed by using caustic soda. The reaction is highly exothermic therefore the rector system is fitted with an efficient cooling coils internally and supplemented externally with a vacuum condensing unit.

Urea-formaldehyde (UF)

Urea-formaldehyde (UF) is a resin derived from the co-polymerisation of urea and
formaldehyde. The initial reaction is in an alkaline state followed by condensation in an acidic state.

Melamine-Urea-Formaldehyde (MUF)

Melamine-Urea-Formaldehyde (MUF) is a resin with a high solid content co-polymer of melamine, urea and formaldehyde. The resin is an improved version of the UF resin where a calculated amount of urea is substituted with melamine. This is done to improve the water-resistant property of the finished wood product that it is applied into. The manufacturing procedure is therefore similar to the manufacture of UF resin.
